Last weekend I ventured to eastern Oregon for a weekend at Washington Family Ranch (a Young Life camp) in Eastern Oregon with some truly wonderful friends. Every year this group of friends (about 200 of us?), some old, some new, some old, some young, drive all the way out to Washington Family Ranch for Labor Day weekend.

The weekend was such a gift, one I didn’t know I needed. Don’t you love it when that happens?

It wasn’t until we were approaching the camp property, until visual reminders of where I was going and why I was going became visible that I had a clear feeling that God had brought me out there for a reason. As I approached the property a feeling rose up in my chest that the Lord had called me to that place to call me to His heart. To remind me of His kindness and that He is my refuge and my strength.

The first evening session began and as I watched some of my very dearest friends lead our group of family and friends in genuine, heart-felt worship, the familiarity of their voices brought tears to my eyes, triggering the memory of emotions I had forgotten and an intimacy with The Lord I hadn’t realized I had been missing. The harshness of reality melted away as the words of new songs sung by familiar voices washed over me.

All of this, to share my favorite new song from the weekend with you. It’s called Hope’s Anthem and it’s by Jesus Culture:

He’s bringing hope to the hopeless,

Giving His heart to the broken,

Sharing His home with the orphan,

He is the joy, He is my joy.

Amen.

Hola!

It’s been a busy busy couple of weeks and it’s only going to get busier. I love when life is like this- brimming with adventure and beauty and hope. Weekend trips and concerts and birthdays and house projects. Good books and letter writing and dinners with friends and family. Leaving and receiving improvised-song-voicemails (ala Kat and Garth), and repeat trips to frozen yogurt. Good haircuts and driving with the windows down after a good workout.

Currently day dreaming of my upcoming trip to NYC this weekend (!), my fast-approaching departure from The Studio into a lovely craftsman atop Queen Anne, painting my lovely room in said craftsman, throwing an end-of-the-year dinner party for my dearest team of student workers (we’re calling it a banquet, but really it’s just a dinner party), the mirror-plated side table I found at Marshalls (!), and lots more praying and dreaming for the future.

Currently listening to this song on repeat (thank you, Mo), loving the article on pages 50-53 of this magazine (thank you, Shauna Niequist), wishing I had a reason or the warm weather to wear this dress, and that I had an occasion/the time/the patience to make this cake.

Hoping your day is filled with inspiration and love,

xo,
Meg

… to Grandmother’s house we go!

My mom is currently on her way to Seattle from Spokane. Tonight we’ve got a packed schedule of walks around Greenlake, home hair highlighting, Trader Joe’s pizza, and a new episode of What Not to Wear. Tomorrow morning we’ll head down to Portland, spend some time downtown, and then head west of Portland to visit my mom’s side of the family… including the newest addition, Maeza Grace Wilson, who my cousin Amy and her husband Brent just adopted from Ethiopia! Ah! So excited!

Also on the agenda for Sunday is to make the long anticipated ORANGE CHOCOLATE CHUNK CAKE! I’ll keep you updated.

Hope you have a great Mother’s Day weekend!

What a wonderful weekend! Dinner party with friends, Saturday morning coffee with Dad, thrift shopping, a very lucrative trip to Buffalo Exchange, Annie’s Affordable Art, making dinner for my family, craftiness, my first ever skype date with Mo, kayaking Greenlake, and a party dedicated solely to cheese?! Plus lots of sunshine?! Weekends don’t get much better.

So grateful for so many good things in my life and the ability to appreciate them.

And just because they’re cute, here are some pics of me and Dad’s kayaking adventure:

It’s Friday, It’s Friday, It’s Friday!! Dreaming about lots for the weekend; making these chocolate hazelnut cookies, this duvet cover, listening to this album cause it reminds me of my mom, hoping I will get to eat mussels from here again ASAP, finding a Nikon D40 on Craigslist, theeeese gorgeous bags at UO, running around Greenlake as much as I can after realizing I can get around the whole thing again (!), watching The September Issue, celebrating this girl with a sundae from here, and heading to Tacoma for a Megan/Anna day.

It’s sure to be a great weekend. Hope yours is lovely as well!

Megan

{I hope you have a fun day tomorrow!}

Busy weekend ahead!

For me, Halloween will include a roomates’ birthday, Hocus Pocus (I’m banking it will be on TV at some point tomorrow), carving pumpkins and passing out candy at Allison’s beautiful new house, and attending a costume/brew party. I also made theeeese for an auction at SPU tonight (but with pumpkin instead of banana- seriously so good- make them now), and found my last-minute costume idea, here.

Also day dreaming about wearing this, stacking these in my living room, seasonal work here, this photo, and getting to sing this on Sunday… if the oncoming cold I feel doesn’t take over first.

Have a great weekend!

Meg

Rach and I both picked up this increeedible book at Digs in Bellingham a few weekends ago. I absolutely love the concept, as thrift and chic just happen to be my two middle names.

The British authors show tons of awesome ideas for creating beautiful spaces on a budget, while also being eco-friendly by re-using and recycling.

Check it out!.. are you not inspired?

There are a million things I’m dreaming about this morning… a new Brooke Fraser song, workspace inspiration posted on Decor8 earlier this week, Julie & Julia, what is this Obamacare stuff really all about and what do I think?, the 13 frozen bananas currently in my freezer and what I’m going to do with them this weekend…, whether or not I should splurge on Wicked tickets, Myra and Oudelina in Honduras, is it too early to be thinking about a new winter coat purchase?, a gorgeous wedding photographer out of Toronto, soft lace totes from Paris with free shipping this weekend, the Seattle Skate Film Fest tonight (and what am I going to wear to it?!), and did Ed really cheat on Jillian?!

So much to ponder…

Hope you have a wonderful weekend!

Is that I have time to make these! Quick ‘n Easy Whole Wheat Banana Pancakes. I found this recipe on Green Lite Bites about a year ago and they have become a regular part of my Saturday morning routine.

You will need:

  • 1 large overripe banana
  • 1 egg
  • ½ cup milk (I use vanilla soy)
  • ½ tsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp baking soda
  • ½ tsp ground nutmeg
  • ¾ cup whole wheat flour
  •

    First, mash the banana:

Then, whisk with milk and egg until frothy:

Mix together dry ingredients (flour, baking powder, baking soda, and nutmeg):

Combine wet and dry ingredients just until incorporated:

Pour batter in a non-stick skillet or griddle over medium heat sprayed with non-stick cooking spray. Cook about 1-2 minutes a side, small bubbles will form but not as many as traditional pancakes. Peak underneath for a light brown color, then flip!

Top with whatever you like- my fave it peanut butter, fresh banana, a little cinnamon, and a little syrup:

Recipe makes 6 medium-sized or 9 small pancakes (3 medium shown above).

No better way to start the weekend!

    outdoor movie

…And on that note, what a summer! This summer has been so unexpectedly wonderful! I am a chronic over-planner but this summer has been pretty unplanned and has proved to be quite wonderful.

Weekend highlights included happy hour, a Kenny Chesney concert (what?!), outdoor movies, pizza twice in one day, church, new shoes (which I need to return because they gave me two different sized shoes!), long overdue phone convos, and helping out a dearest friend with an incredible wedding (more details to come).

Not bad for a weekend that began with nothing on the calendar.

Hoping your weekend was equally as wonderful!

    Hi!

My name is Megan. I’m a twenty-something girl, living in Seattle, working, living, running, laughing, baking, singing, and being constantly inspired by the glory of God manifested in the beauty of the world around me. I see beauty in a dress, a photo, a thoughtfully decorated room, my friends, a pair of shoes, a cupcake, a song, a flower arrangement. And this is where it all comes together.
