{from my parents’ garden.}
Free flowers are always a good thing. Especially when they are peonies from your parents’ garden. Dawn and I have been spending many of the lovely Seattle summer evenings we’ve been having on the front porch of our house and these peonies just make it all the better. Plus they do such a cute job of welcoming you home.

I recently fell in love with the local Seattle band, The Head and the Heart.
Their sweetest of lyrics and dueting male/female vocals make this up and coming group the new soundtrack to my summer.
From their MySpace:
Stylistically, think a folksy Beatles or Crosby Stills Nash & Young with more oomph. Catchy piano melodies stand side by side with a tight trio of harmonies, and solid minimalist drums, groovin bass, and plenty of hand percussion and foot stomps make the live show inspiring and really goddamn fun.
The band’s eponymous first album was self-released at the end of June 2010.
AND they’re playing TONIGHT at the Comet on Capital Hill, 9pm. Maybe I’ll see you there?
Have a great weekend, the sun is out in Seattle! Hoping to catch some rays.

Meg
It’s time for another installment of… THIS IS WHAT MEGAN MADE FOR ONE OF HER FRIEND OR FAMILY MEMBER’S BIRTHDAY!
I guess there has only been one other installment thus far, but there have been other instances, I just haven’t blogged about them.
Today is my step-mother, Julie’s, birthday! Julie loves the outdoors, swimming, gardening, granola, secret stashes of chocolate, her church, her family, her heritage (Scandinavia), and above all… berries. Ok, maybe not above allll, but she loves them a lot.
As I have become the official “Baker-of-all-Celebratory-Treats” among my family, friends, and collegues ( to my delight, not distain!), the birthday treat was up to me.
My dad suggested something warm-weather-friendly, with berries, so I was off to consult Martha for some ideas. Low and behold, on Martha’s main page, right there in front of me was a link to, ”60 Berry Desserts” – perfecto! How did she know?! It did not take long for me to decide on the Raspberry Ice Cream Cake.
Soooo good, and seemingly so simple and easy. Unless you can’t find pound cake at either of the two grocery stores you look, and then the pound cake is up to you.
So, last night was one of those, “why-am-I-baking?-it’s-way-too-hot-for-this” nights as I baked my first pound cakes ever. Pound cake itself is pretty simple though (1 lb of each ingredient- flour, sugar, butter, eggs). I used this recipe from Epicurious.com.
After you’ve tackled the pound cake, all you have to do is cut the cake(s) into three layers, layer on ice cream and berries, reassemble, wrap in foil and freeze for at least 4 hours – up to overnight.
Take it out of the freezer 1/2 hour before serving and dust with powdered sugar.

Megan
This post may seem trivial, but something that must be mused over. The Onesie/Romper/Jumper, whichever you choose to call it, is one of this summer’s biggest trends and I think I like it. Sorry if that completely offends anyone. {For all intents and purposes we will call it a jumper because, well, that’s what Urban Outfitters calls it.}
I was struck in my latest Shop It To Me newsletter that there were several jumpers for sale. I guess I didn’t realize just how popular they had gotten but thought I’d check with Urban Outfitters to see what they offered and was amazed to find 5 full pages of jumpers! Who knew there were so many variations?!
Here’s to being young, fun, and fashionably daring. Summer 2009, I love you.
*disclaimer: I do not know how I feel about full length pant-jumpers, or jumpers with tights underneath. I think I can appreciate these variations, but you will not see me sporting these look any time in the near future. thank you.*
A few weekends ago Julie, Heather, Natalie and I went out to celebrate Natalie and her last night in Seattle for a while. The evening was so. much. fun.
To boot, I was blown away at our somehow perfectly coordinating attire. I don’t think the best stylist in the world could have more perfectly coordinated our outfits- it was a little un-canny, and inspiring for sure.
How is it I have such fabulous friends?!
I know the photography is eh, but go with it.

…And on that note, what a summer! This summer has been so unexpectedly wonderful! I am a chronic over-planner but this summer has been pretty unplanned and has proved to be quite wonderful.
Weekend highlights included happy hour, a Kenny Chesney concert (what?!), outdoor movies, pizza twice in one day, church, new shoes (which I need to return because they gave me two different sized shoes!), long overdue phone convos, and helping out a dearest friend with an incredible wedding (more details to come).
Not bad for a weekend that began with nothing on the calendar.
Hoping your weekend was equally as wonderful!
