I don’t know about you, but for me, traveling and reading go hand in hand. Especially when a cruise ship and laying out are involved. This trip was I was accompanied by several reads, however, The New York Regional Mormon Singles Halloween Dance by Elna Baker was by far my favorite.

The New York Regional Mormon Singles Halloween Dance

Honestly- probably one of my new favorite books. This is a series of essays and stories written by Elna Baker, telling the story of her life in New York as just that- a Mormon single. Hilarious and totally thought provoking, I felt I could so deeply relate to her stories of faith, love, health, vocation, and more. I very highly recommend it. Seriously. I would let you borrow it- but I left it on the boat for my brother and his cast-mates to read.

Elna also writes for NPR and is a stand-up comedian in NYC.

I’ve been on a reading kick for the last couple of months- ever since I went on the cruise actually. I’ve been plowing though books, taking intentional time to read (which isn’t totally like me) and have been loving it! A few weeks ago I came to the conclusion it was time to read something with a little more weight than Nicholas Sparks novels (I’m not hating, much love for the N-Sparks), and a friend suggested Tolstoy’s Anna Karenina. Whew! I am LOVING it! It’s a big change of pace from what I’d been reading, but I am totally digging it. There is so much descriptive detail, and the plot moves slooowllly, but that is what is so great about it. I’m in no rush to finish (and won’t be finishing any time in the near future as it’s around 800 pages- whew!), and am just enjoying the ride.

Hope you’re having a great Friday! 10 on 10 tomorrow- so excited the 10th falls on a Saturday this month!

See you soon,

xo,

Hi!

My name is Megan. I’m a twenty-something girl, living in Seattle, working, living, running, laughing, baking, singing, and being constantly inspired by the glory of God manifested in the beauty of the world around me. I see beauty in a dress, a photo, a thoughtfully decorated room, my friends, a pair of shoes, a cupcake, a song, a flower arrangement. And this is where it all comes together.
