I’ve posted before about local wedding photographer, Kristen Marie, and here I am again… I find her photos so beautiful and identify so much with her passion for creativity and a desire to glorify the Lord through it.  Natalie brought to my attention a particularly lovely and inspiring post from her blog about a day trip to Ocean Shores. I identified with it so much, just had to share:

I went to Ocean Shores for a day.

I found beauty in the way the wind tangled my split end hair and how the sand stuck to my knobby knees. The sun hit my scarred nose that I wish was normal.

A girl got tangled up in her kite , Ashley searched for beach prizes and Claire ran into the ocean. I followed her in but wussed out when I realized how cold the water was. A boy hit the sand with a stick as his mom yelled at him in a foreign language.

We drove back and I stuck my hand out the window and let the rush of air move my fingers as I tried to sing the words I knew to the songs of Dr. Dog.

We found a trail halfway back to Olympia. Walking through fields, trees and swamps we hoped to find the river we saw from the highway. I may have swallowed a bug and the smell of damp air lingered over the mud we stepped in. It caked the bottoms and sides of my favorite boots and I thought about who I am.

I make mistakes every day. I don’t always hold up my side of the friendship. My communication is sometimes off. I am a workaholic. I am sarcastic – which can either offend or loosen someone up. I don’t relate well with other’s emotions but I know how to encourage. I get my hopes up. I like to be alone- but not lonely. It’s hard for me to get my words right.

I am independent. I am quick to forgive. I can take care of myself. I know what it means to sacrifice. I know what I deserve. I love to make people laugh.  Despite my features that I deem less than perfect, my Creator finds them exquisite. To Him, I am beautiful. From my horrible posture right down to my dry sense of humor.

More importantly, I am chosen. I am redeemed. I am forgiven. I am made whole. I am unique. I am worthy. I am pursued. And I am loved. Oh my lans, I am loved.

I drove home and saw all the lies that said I’d never be pretty, skinny, smart or talented enough begin to fade away. I nodded and told myself I should go to Ocean Shores more often.

And check out these incredible photos! I mean really!:

Meg

Looking forward to improved photos and figuring out how to use this thing!… bare with me as I learn the ropes. :)

Dear Craigslist,

Please bring me a Nikon D40 in awesome condition for an awesome price. Please include a flash, lens cap, case, and possibly even a tri-pod. Also, please come quickly as I would like to start using you for blog purposes, ASAP. Thank you very much.

Dear ebay,

Please bring me a Lululemon Stride Jacket, size 6 or 8, in white/athletica-grey-teeny-stripe. It is now too warm out for my Lulu Remix hoodie, and with running outside again I could really use one right away. It is so beautiful and gray and I would love it forever. I have been looking faithfully for month now, please turn up soon.

Yours faithfully,

Megan

Anna, this post is for you!

Last Saturday I spent the day with my dear friend Anna. We spent time with her family, including her ridiculously adorable 3 year old nephew, Aiden, hot tubbed, went to Target (Duh), laughed through www.peopleofwalmart.com, aaaand Anna taught me all about lomography! What is lomography, you ask? (Good question, I didn’t know either) An awesome retro-style of photography, usually using 35 or 120mm film. The result are beautiful photos like these!:

What’s so fun is that it’s so manual. There are all sorts of different techniques you can use to get different effects. You can multi-expose, advance the film half way (to get the above effect). You never know what you’re going to get, and you won’t know until you get your film developed! Cameras are relatively cheap (around $50) and look like this:

You can learn all about lomography as well as buy cameras and supplies at www.lomography.com. They also have a rad facebook page.

Can’t wait to check it out!

Happy Friday!

One of my {former} roommates, Maren, got married in December and her beeauuutiful wedding photos were just posted by her photographer, Kristen Marie, on her website.

Kristen is honestly one my favorite wedding photographers and has such a great heart (I haven’t actually talked with her, but read her about me section… so cute!)

Below are some of my favorites, you can view more here

Hahaha, yes, that’s me….

This was seriously such a fun and beautiful wedding! The ceremony was so meaningful and worshipful and the reception was so much fun! They had a live cover band, that, when Maren initially told me about I was super skeptical because our friends LOVE to dance and I wasn’t sure a cover band of white guys in thier 50s and 60s would cut it. But boy was I wrong! They were so good and so fun and totally played Usher and Lady Gaga. It was incredible!

Happy Wednesday!

I stumbled across these incredible polaroid collages on Flickr earlier this week by sioactiva, out of Bogotá, Colombia. Aren’t they incredible?!

I love the varying angles and how they depict so many adorable elements of a couple, all in one idea. Each shot shows you a detail in the greater photo idea that you may not have noticed otherwise. Ah, amazing. And how you never see their faces- it leaves you and your imagination to fill in the blanks of what you think they look like and are all about.

My friend Jessica Valle takes incredible photos!  I don’t know too much about photography, but the colors and angles are gorgeous and the way she captures life and light is so moving and inspiring. I spent an entire afternoon looking through her flickr one day!

To see more or to hire her, check out her beautiful website.

Ok, I have officially unpacked, done laundry, distributed souvenirs to family and roommates, and have sorted through pictures.

Aaaand… Honduras was INCREDIBLE! It was such a great week, it was so hard to leave! God does incredible things when we serve Him by serving others… enough said.

On my way home, on the flight from Houston to Seattle, I took a minute to jot down some of my favorite things about Honduras:

  • The power and/or water goes out about once a day.
  • Things are rarely on time… ever…
  • The adults tend to wear the tightest clothing possible… it’s awesome…
  • I don’t think I’ve eaten that much friend food since… ever… The dinner menu every night included: garlic shrimp, fried shrimp, fried plantains, fried fish, fried chicken, and french fries. Holy heart attack.
  • EVERYday the 1-4 year-olds watch High School Musical, but skip through all the scenes and only watch the songs. Even better, they all know every word to every song in perfect English… but cannot speak a word. Ha!

Ok, so I know these are all funny/quirky things but really, it was an incredibly meaningful time… it’s hard to put into writing. So I think I’ll just leave you with some photos :-) .

I honestly did not take that many photos, but my absolute faves are some that were taken when I let one of the orphans- Noelia, play with my camera for a while.

The last picture is a self-portrait she took of herself.

Being that I arrived home from Honduras (which I will definitely post on soon, still sorting through pictures and whatnot) on Father’s Day- there was no real way I could add to the day with some spark of creativity or home-made token of love and appreciation. So, I give you my favorite photo of my dad and I, walking around Greenlake as we often do. Master problem solver, expert encourager, courageous rescuer, and top-notch barbequer – I count my father as one of the greatest blessings in my life.

…And not that I need to be doing any wedding planning… but I am in love with the idea of bridesmaids wearing cowboy boots. Really, I’m just in love with cowboy boots, I love the whimsy and fun they add to a look. I realize that I am Washington born and raised, and for the greater portion of my life have hated country music, but there is still this part of me that wishes I lived somewhere like Franklin, Tennessee. Ok, there is a BIG part of me that wishes I lived in exactly Franklin, Tennessee… and could have this exact wedding featured on Once Wed… but you get the point. :-)

Hi!

My name is Megan. I’m a twenty-something girl, living in Seattle, working, living, running, laughing, baking, singing, and being constantly inspired by the glory of God manifested in the beauty of the world around me. I see beauty in a dress, a photo, a thoughtfully decorated room, my friends, a pair of shoes, a cupcake, a song, a flower arrangement. And this is where it all comes together.
