There are a million things I’m dreaming about this morning… a new Brooke Fraser song, workspace inspiration posted on Decor8 earlier this week, Julie & Julia, what is this Obamacare stuff really all about and what do I think?, the 13 frozen bananas currently in my freezer and what I’m going to do with them this weekend…, whether or not I should splurge on Wicked tickets, Myra and Oudelina in Honduras, is it too early to be thinking about a new winter coat purchase?, a gorgeous wedding photographer out of Toronto, soft lace totes from Paris with free shipping this weekend, the Seattle Skate Film Fest tonight (and what am I going to wear to it?!), and did Ed really cheat on Jillian?!

So much to ponder…

Hope you have a wonderful weekend!

While in Honduras I was totally entranced by the beautifully colored homes- and especially the intricate wrought iron gates that surrounded them. I kept wanting to stop the yellow school bus that was our daily transportation and take pictures, but as that was not really an option I literally snapped a few photos as we drove to the village everyday.

Ok, I have officially unpacked, done laundry, distributed souvenirs to family and roommates, and have sorted through pictures.

Aaaand… Honduras was INCREDIBLE! It was such a great week, it was so hard to leave! God does incredible things when we serve Him by serving others… enough said.

On my way home, on the flight from Houston to Seattle, I took a minute to jot down some of my favorite things about Honduras:

  • The power and/or water goes out about once a day.
  • Things are rarely on time… ever…
  • The adults tend to wear the tightest clothing possible… it’s awesome…
  • I don’t think I’ve eaten that much friend food since… ever… The dinner menu every night included: garlic shrimp, fried shrimp, fried plantains, fried fish, fried chicken, and french fries. Holy heart attack.
  • EVERYday the 1-4 year-olds watch High School Musical, but skip through all the scenes and only watch the songs. Even better, they all know every word to every song in perfect English… but cannot speak a word. Ha!

Ok, so I know these are all funny/quirky things but really, it was an incredibly meaningful time… it’s hard to put into writing. So I think I’ll just leave you with some photos :-) .

I honestly did not take that many photos, but my absolute faves are some that were taken when I let one of the orphans- Noelia, play with my camera for a while.

The last picture is a self-portrait she took of herself.

I leave tonight for Honduras! After work I will take the train from Seattle to Portland where I will meet up with the rest of the group I am traveling with. At 12:30am our flight will depart Portland, OR, spend a 2 hour layover in Houston, TX (I’ve never been to Texas!.. that I can remember) and then fly into San Pedro Sula, Honduras. From there, I understand it is a several hour drive to the town of Tegucigalpita where the Worldwide Heart to Heart Ministries orphanage is and then to where we are staying in Omoa. Whew! Click here for a map.

I cannot believe the day is finally here! I cannot wait to spend time and have this experience with two of my dearest friends! I cannot wait to meet these kids and experience life and get outside myself and the conveniences of my affluent American 20-something life.

While I know that this trip is definitely about serving these kids, showing them God’s love through our words and actions, I also am keenly aware that this trip is also about my own heart. I had a really incredible conversation with a few friends a couple weeks ago about mission trips… We discussed the fact that me deciding to join this group to Honduras will most likely not change much of what God would have done had I not decided to go. I feel like short term mission trips like this are more about what I will do when I get back. What will I see, how will I be moved and changed that will draw me more in line with God’s redeeming work in the world?

Yesterday in church we sang this song. So incredibly appropriate and moving. Sometimes God outdoes Himself!

HONDURAS!

…more info to come :-D

Hi!

My name is Megan. I’m a twenty-something girl, living in Seattle, working, living, running, laughing, baking, singing, and being constantly inspired by the glory of God manifested in the beauty of the world around me. I see beauty in a dress, a photo, a thoughtfully decorated room, my friends, a pair of shoes, a cupcake, a song, a flower arrangement. And this is where it all comes together.
