With the return of having internet at home has come a few things. One- Pinterest. Two- HGTV online. (Three- more frequent blogging). Having internet access at home (which I did not have the year I lived in The Studio) means I have been catching up on all my favorite HGTV shows online and I have discovered a new favorite, Secrets from a Stylist. Secrets from a Stylist is the result of HGTVs reality competition show, Design Star, of which the host of Secrets from a Stylist, Emily Henderson, was a winner. I won’t bother you with details about the show, you can watch it yourself, but really, it’s my favorite ever. I love it a ton. I wish there were more episodes. Cause I’ve watched them all. Some, more than once.

In an episode from the first season, Emily uses these bust vases, which I thought were the coolest. I love how whimsical yet neutral they are with their kooky character and pale white color. I later saw them perusing Pinterest, this time with succulents- even better!

Hope you had a great 4th!

Yes, it’s true, I moved!.. and along with moving, despite the fact that this may be a temporary home, I decided to paint my new room. Because I could. And wanted to. Because I didn’t care for the original color. And because I love a good house project.

I meant to take better before pictures, but just barely remembered in time to catch this last wall:

And this is neighbor/friend, Brandon, being a NINJA, and climbing in through the window because I accidentally locked the door to the room while painting:

I decided to go with a nice neutral color:

And, TA DA!:

Brown/gray…surprise, surprise, right? I went with Potter’s Clay from the Martha Stewart collection. Neutrals all the way!

So far, I am really loving my new home. My room itself is lovely with a view of Queen Anne Ave. There is actual PARKING and I have a DISHWASHER and WASHER AND DRYER and INTERNET, which are all conveniences I have been living without for the past year. I feel like all I’ve done since moving in is laundry, load and unload the dishwasher, and watch on-line TV.

Last night was my first real taste of life in a church-owned house as middle school youth group was happening next door. I sat in my bed watching the sun set, listening to middle schoolers run around eating pizza, playing dodge ball, and singing Pharaoh Pharaoh. Definitely didn’t get that in The Studio.

And I have WONDERFUL roommate who made me coffee and eggs this morning.

Also, a special thank you to the many friends and family who helped me move over the weekend. I am so blessed!

A few weeks ago I came across this smart project in a Real Simple e-newsletter. It was just the shelf solution I was looking for to work with my angle-facing bed that makes a night stand/table impossible. Plus I love anything involving vintage books.

All you do is take an old hard back book and affix it between 3 L brackets. For detailed instructions check out Real Simple!

And, Ta Da!:

Pretty great if I do say so myself. Hopefully my plaster walls hold up-ha!

Maybe the most meaningful gift I received this Christmas was my Grandma Inger’s china. She used this china on Thanksgiving this year- I was seated next to her and she picked up on my several comments of how much I liked it. It’s so unique and beautiful! I was so excited when I opened my gift from her this Christmas to see a set of this china with a note that the entire set was mine.

Can’t wait to use it! Maybe I’ll have to invite you over for dinner.

Happy New Year!

I mentioned these a couple posts ago, but I just keep thinking about these incredible cloth bound classics recently released in the US by Penguin Books. All covers were designed by Coralie Bickford-Smith, who was interviewed on Design Sponge a few weeks ago.

Aren’t they just the coolest? I adore the combination of classic literature with color, texture, patter, and design. I am envisioning them filling the built-in bookshelf in my living room as I type this.

{10 on 10 tomorrow!}

Fall is obviously here and as the weather has finally changed here in Seattle, I have been keeping busy with lots of indoor activities:

{And finally hung this lantern in my room that I bought several months ago.}

Productive or what? And it’s only October! So many more project ideas…

I hope you are enjoying fall as much as I am!

Rach and I both picked up this increeedible book at Digs in Bellingham a few weekends ago. I absolutely love the concept, as thrift and chic just happen to be my two middle names.

The British authors show tons of awesome ideas for creating beautiful spaces on a budget, while also being eco-friendly by re-using and recycling.

Check it out!.. are you not inspired?

When I started my job just over two years ago, I decorated my office a bit- putting up Martha Stewart wrapping paper on my bulletin boards, backing some of my favorite photos with colorful card stock, hanging a few small mirrors, brought in some fake flowers (no windows in my office), and an aerial photo of Seattle.

A few weeks ago I spotted these incredible photos of PaPaYa!‘s new work space on Decor8. Can you imagine working is such a beautiful space?! Well, some of you may actually work in such places.

I’m working on it :-) .

if I did a Paint-By-Number?

I have seriously loved doing them in the past, however can never find one I actually wanted to put on display in my home (Noah’s ark, anyone?), much less gift to anyone. So, I just end up doing them and then throwing them away or giving them to the Goodwill (God bless whoever may have payed any amount of money for one of my creations).

But I think they can look kind of cool… right? Am I way off base? Probably…

However, my prayers have been answered, problem solved! Rachel found this awesome software that can turn any picture into your very own custom paint-by-number! Wa whoo! Gone are days of waterfalls and cats sitting on window sills! The possibilities are endless…

Cool, right?.. Right?!

There are a million things I’m dreaming about this morning… a new Brooke Fraser song, workspace inspiration posted on Decor8 earlier this week, Julie & Julia, what is this Obamacare stuff really all about and what do I think?, the 13 frozen bananas currently in my freezer and what I’m going to do with them this weekend…, whether or not I should splurge on Wicked tickets, Myra and Oudelina in Honduras, is it too early to be thinking about a new winter coat purchase?, a gorgeous wedding photographer out of Toronto, soft lace totes from Paris with free shipping this weekend, the Seattle Skate Film Fest tonight (and what am I going to wear to it?!), and did Ed really cheat on Jillian?!

So much to ponder…

Hope you have a wonderful weekend!

Hi!

My name is Megan. I’m a twenty-something girl, living in Seattle, working, living, running, laughing, baking, singing, and being constantly inspired by the glory of God manifested in the beauty of the world around me. I see beauty in a dress, a photo, a thoughtfully decorated room, my friends, a pair of shoes, a cupcake, a song, a flower arrangement. And this is where it all comes together.
