I just finished reading Cold Tangerines by Shauna Niequist…

…and completely loved it.

Cold Tangerines is a collection of stories that celebrate the extraordinary moments hidden in our everyday lives. It is about God, and about life, and about the thousands of daily ways in which an awareness of God changes and infuses everything. It is about spiritual life, and about all the things that we have called nonspiritual life that might be spiritual after all. It is the snapshots of a young woman making peace with herself and her life, and trying to craft a life that captures the energy and exuberance we long for in the midst of the fear and regret and envy we all carry with us. It is both a voice of challenge and song of comfort, calling us upward to the best possible life, and giving us room to breathe, to rest, to break down and break through. Cold Tangerines offers bright and varied glimpses of hope and redemption, in and among the heartbreak and boredom and broken glass.

Very likely one the most beautiful things I’ve ever read as it touches so deeply to my own heart for God and the ways in which He reveals His love, grace, and glory to us through the everyday. Shauna beautifully expresses thoughts and feelings about God and life and art and beauty and creativity in this book that I have had a million times but have never been able to put words to, and she does it so eloquently.

My favorite two chapters were the last two. You can read Needle and Thread, here. And listen to Cold Tangerines (the name of the last chapter of the book), here.

Happy Weekend,

XO,

Meg

I don’t know about you, but for me, traveling and reading go hand in hand. Especially when a cruise ship and laying out are involved. This trip was I was accompanied by several reads, however, The New York Regional Mormon Singles Halloween Dance by Elna Baker was by far my favorite.

The New York Regional Mormon Singles Halloween Dance

Honestly- probably one of my new favorite books. This is a series of essays and stories written by Elna Baker, telling the story of her life in New York as just that- a Mormon single. Hilarious and totally thought provoking, I felt I could so deeply relate to her stories of faith, love, health, vocation, and more. I very highly recommend it. Seriously. I would let you borrow it- but I left it on the boat for my brother and his cast-mates to read.

Elna also writes for NPR and is a stand-up comedian in NYC.

xo,

Hi!

My name is Megan. I’m a twenty-something girl, living in Seattle, working, living, running, laughing, baking, singing, and being constantly inspired by the glory of God manifested in the beauty of the world around me. I see beauty in a dress, a photo, a thoughtfully decorated room, my friends, a pair of shoes, a cupcake, a song, a flower arrangement. And this is where it all comes together.
