Last Friday one of my co-workers came into work buzzing about a documentary she had just heard about on NPR on her drive in that morning. Pina, a 3-D film tribute to the late modern dance choreographer, Pina Bausch. We quickly pulled up the trailer on-line and right away I knew my weekend plans would include this film.
A few text messages later and a friend and I had plans to see it the next day.
I love exploring creative mediums outside of my comfort zone. Modern dance is just that. I don’t quite understand all that it entails. But that’s just what I love about it. The mystery, thinking through what the choreographer was trying to communicate through each piece. It causes me to grow in my own creative understanding, and I love being challenged in that way.
The film is truly visually stunning, it’s done so well and is in 3-D. It’s playing at Cinerama until March 8th.

It seems to be a trend that I get home on Saturday nights just in time to catch the end of Saturday Night Live. Last Saturday night I slumped on the couch after a long Saturday and a long drive, and turned on the TV just in time to catch Bon Iver perform their song Halocene. Can’t explain exactly why, but it look by breath away. Perhaps it’s the intricate layering, the groovy beat, the swelling brass section, his floating falsetto (I’m a sucker for a good falsetto, Fellas), or maybe even that Channing Tatum introduced them (eyebrow pumps), but it gave me chills.
If you didn’t have a chance to check it out yourself, voila:

Lately I’ve had a spring in my step and that spring has been fueled by some dear friends who have moved back to Seattle. 3 of them also happen to make up the band, Window View. These 3, along with a few others, inspire me to love others and myself more, to keep short accounts with my loved ones, and to live a better story. Below is a little video they put together before moving back to Seattle from LA. May it inspire you to live better as well. Enjoy!
Window View, along with Natalie are playing Nectar on February 26th. Join us if you’re local!

M
