I have the best friends and family. Feeling extravagantly loved and inspired for the year ahead.

Happy New Year, everyone! I hope you’ve had a wonderful holiday filled with all the love this season brings. I am feeling so filled and blessed and inspired for 2012 and hope you are too.

I have had the most wonderful Christmas and New Year’s and am now enjoying just a few days off after a very busy month of work.  The excitement continues into January as my mom and brother come into town this week, some of my very best friends have just moved back to Seattle from LA and Portland, and there are a few important birthdays to celebrate this month as well.

I had the pleasure of helping lead worship at my church’s Christmas Eve services again this year and cannot stop dwelling on the power of the message that night. I hope you don’t mind jumping back a week or two with me to revisit Christmas, but I am still reeling from it and can’t help but share it here. I also wish more than anything that everyone could have the experience of standing in front of  a congregation, watching it fill with light as people pass the light of their candle to the sound of hundreds of voices singing Silent Night. Someday when I look back at my life, I will count it as one of my very favorite moments. I don’t know what this Christmas season meant to you, or if you thought much about what the birth of Jesus means for you in your life, but it means the world to me and if if you have a few minutes I hope you can benefit from listening to this message as much as I have.

Wishing you a blessed 2012!

Meg

These harmonies make my heart swell.

The Staves are touring with The Civil Wars, another favorite, this winter. Let’s go.

Since starting this new job I have been learning a TON about food and the Seattle restaurant scene. About things like Eater.com, what a white wine mirepoix or beignet or nagé is and how to spell them without checking. Or even the key command for putting and accent over an e (é). About things like the James Beard Awards and Art Culinaire, about important figures in Seattle and their dining preferences. Using the word ‘dine’ rather than ‘eat’ or referring to our Executive Chef as Chef, like it’s his first name. Eliminating the phrases ‘no problem,’ ‘bummer,’ and ‘can I…’ from my vocabulary. I’m also been learning a lot about where to eat in Seattle, and know these restaurants’ chefs by name like they are professional athletes.

After a few weeks I started compiling a list of restaurants I heard talked about that sounded too good not to try. Below is a list of what I’m learning to be important places to know about and enjoy:

*Tilth

Spinasse

*The Cotorie Room

*Crush

RN74

*The Walrus and the Carpenter

*Staple and Fancy

Lark

*Revel

*The Book Bindery

(* = places I’ve been… I know… I’m eating my way through this town)

I love how in such a short amount of  time my respect and appreciation for food and the dining experience has grown so much. There really is something magical that happens when all the right elements come together. A few nights ago I had the amazing experience of having dinner at The Book Bindery with 2 dear food-loving friends and it was just perfect. The wine, the starters, the ingredients, the presentation, the service, the company. Something beyond the sum of it’s parts begins to happen.

And yet when I eat at home… I find myself eating more peanut butter sandwiches than ever…. I am my mother’s daughter. :)

I have been looking forward to today (11/17) for weeks! It’s like Christmas in my world today. Today was a really good day. I mean a really, really great day.

Although I have been working at Canlis for 3 months, today I went through orientation. Orientation is something every new employee at Canlis looks forward to as you get to learn the real deal about the restaurant, the family history, you get to know the Canlis family better and really learn what it is that really makes Canlis such a special place.

More than ever I feel so incredibly blessed to be on this team and to be a part of what they are doing. There were so many moments today where I felt like my heart was going to burst out of my chest, I was so excited and moved by what I was learning. Wow-ee.

The finally of orientation is that you get to dine at Canlis with Mr. and Mrs. C (Canlis) that evening. I had yet to actually eat dinner there, so it’s been something I’ve been looking forward to since before I started. I ordered the Wagyu steak. It was incredible. And I think I will be full for days. It’s just more protein than this little carb lover is used to.

After dinner I was whisked away in a sexy black town car to The Moore theater to attend the Feist concert with Heather. We have been looking forward to this for WEEKS, but I was still so blown away. Her melodies are just incredible and so inspired. And she had these three AMAZING back up vocalists who just amplified the power and richness of her songs. And we all know how passionate I am about good back ground vocals.

Tonight I fall asleep feeling full, blessed, and inspired in so many ways… I fall asleep in awe of all the ways the Creator reveals Himself to us through all these gifts. What a lucky girl I am.

Just couldn’t cut one this time.

Here’s to the most beautiful Fall I can recall.

Oh, hey there! So good to see you. Life has been a little more preoccupying than allows for blogging these days. But here I am again as this little place in cyberspace seems to continue to be so life giving to me.

A snapshot of Fall 2011 in the life and times of Miss Brady…

On my limbs:

{ ring from Madewell  ::  snakeskin loafers from Dolce Vita }

In my ears:

{ Bon Iver   ::  Ellie Goulding  ::  Feist }

In front of my eyes:

{  Bill Cunningham’s New York  }

On my lips:

{  The Coterie Room  ::  Crush  }

In my heart:

{the little Brothers – they’re 16 and DRIVING, y’all. And are maybe my favorite people to spend time with these days }

Well, there you have it. The full {not quite} update on all things me.

Hi!

My name is Megan. I’m a twenty-something girl, living in Seattle, working, living, running, laughing, baking, singing, and being constantly inspired by the glory of God manifested in the beauty of the world around me. I see beauty in a dress, a photo, a thoughtfully decorated room, my friends, a pair of shoes, a cupcake, a song, a flower arrangement. And this is where it all comes together.
